Quite a number of ability tests are available, and these cover a broad range of abilities and occupational groups, from basic numerical computation right up to advanced critical thinking. I have a certificate of psychological competence in Level A, Occupational Testing, and I offer the following occupational tests. I am also registered with The British Psychological Society.
As well as the tests listed below, we also use the Strong Interest Inventory and the Innovation Potential Indicator tests.
The Supra Series This is a series of high level ability tests and assessments which are designed for senior managers, professional and high professional graduates. The tests include:
- Verbal Critical Reasoning
- Numerical Critical Reasoning
- Creative Thinking
- Written Communication
The assessments include a range of in-tray and group exercises which measure a range of high level management competencies:
- Planning
- Prioritising
- Decision making
- Influencing skills
- Team sensitivity
- Organisational awareness
The Prima Series The Prima Series is made up of two critical reasoning tests:
- Short Verbal Test (SVT)
- Short Numerical Test (SNT)
These tests are relatively short and are strong predictors of performance. They can therefore be used on a large number of candidates, and are particularly helpful in the initial screening process. They can be used together or separately, and may also be used as a first step before employing the Supra Series or Potentia Series.
The Integra Series This series of assessments is designed for administrative, clerical and sales staff. It focuses on abilities required within these roles and reflects real life work. The tests include:
- Following Instruction (FIT)
- Numerical Computation (without a calculator)
- Computer Data Entry (DET)
- Proof Reading (PRT)
The series also includes a group exercise and an in-tray exercise, the latter of which tests the candidate's ability to deal with changes in priorities. The exercises also provide an assessment of:
- Oral and written communication
- Team membership
- Organisational ability
Saville Consulting Aptitude Assessments The Saville Consultancy series of cognitive ability assessments measure a person’s ability in workplace settings.
There are three key kinds of test within the Saville range:
- Analysis
- Comprehension
- Technical Ability
Each of these is made up of two levels: first, a 'screening out' level composed of quick combination assessments, and secondly, separate aptitude tests which give a more in-depth look at the candidate's ability.
Each individual test is designed around different occupations and work styles, giving a very specific framework for ability evaluation.
The tests can be carried out either online or on paper, and can be employed for both assessment and development.
Able Series This series consists of 10 different tests, suitable for a range of different jobs. Each test is designed around a different work scenario, with the aim of closely relating to the actual job roles. Although they are psychometric instruments, they are also work simulations, and as such they measure an individual’s learning ability, their potential for success within a role, and their ability to manage change. Because the tests relate so closely to the work, they can be highly motivating for candidates.
This series is particularly useful for:
- Graduate recruitment
- Executive selection
- Succession planning
- Recruitment
Ten different ABLE assessments are available to help with these goals in particular areas:
- Business Decision Analysis
- Critical Business Planning
- Critical Analysis
- Commercial Reasoning
- Legal Interpretation
- Financial Appraisal
- Fault Identification
- Performance Programming
- Vetting Applications
- Helpline
Destiny Particularly useful in the recruitment of clerical administrative and secretarial staff or temporary office workers, this tool is designed to measure skills that are required in current office settings. By employing a set of practical exercises, it is possible to ensure that candidates have the required administrative abilities.
Different assessments are available to measure different areas of ability:
- Language skills
- Numerical skills
- Ability to check information against criteria and follow administrative rules
- Understanding of and ability to use office filing systems
As well as these practical assessments, the Destiny Series can also provide an assessment of an individual's personal work style.
Critical Reasoning Skills Series (CRSS) These assessments are designed to give an insight into a candidate's critical reasoning ability, requiring them to use the data provided and their own verbal and numerical reasoning to draw conclusions. By realistically imitating work situations, it is possible to draw solid conclusions about a candidate's intellectual capabilities.
As CRSS includes both standard and advanced options, candidates of all levels of ability can be measured with accuracy.
These assessments are aimed at levels of graduate, managerial and general professional recruitment.
